Cygnus Cyclone 30
The CYGNUS Cyclone has now proved itself to be a tremendous improvement on an already hugely popular and successful design. Since its introduction in the 80’s, as a revolutionary wide-beamed concept, the original CY26 has become the bench mark for a fast, stable and seaworthy craft
Fully compliant with all the needs of skippers, and various classification and regulatory bodies such as the SFIA/RDC/MCA etc.
Cyclones are in use in the most arduous of situations, and have operated in Iceland, Faeroes, Denmark, France, Holland, Belgium, Portugal and in such far flung places as St Helena, up the Amazon and even the Antarctic
- Hugely Successful design
- Bench Mark for fast fish
- Robust Quality

The Cygnus Cyclone 30 FC
The Cygnus Cyclone 30 FC (Forward Control) has a wheelhouse with the bridge windows inclined to the forward. The wheelhouse gives good shelter for four persons. The top of the wheelhouse can be extended to divert sprays and give additional shelter from the rain. The length of the overhang can be varied to customers needs.
With the FC wheelhouse, there is huge deck space available to fit fishing gear, providing space for angling and or diving operations. This gives us the opportunity to satisfy the needs of both the professional seaman and the recreational sailor. The Cygnus Cyclone 30 FC can be delivered at any stage of completion.

The Cyclone 31/35
The Cyclone 31/35 is intended for use as a fast workboat with applications for passengers, chartering, commercial fishing, angling, survey, patrol and leisure use. The standard forward control wheelhouse has been designed along the lines of the original Cyclone 30.
It can be extended for other applications like the charter & workboat market. The vessel has the typical Cygnus construction and performance for the demanding offshore use. The foredeck and ring deck are cored constructions for strength and stiffness. The combination of dead rise and a more gradual forefoot will cut down on slamming and give a more comfortable ride.
The Cyclone’s 3.8m moulded beam, with the addition of the familiar wing type chines carried right below the waterline, provide very high stability for this class of vessel, at rest or on the plane and this model competes with catamaran boats. The wide deep V hull provides great buoyancy enabling it to carry a good load without excessive increase in draft and loss of freeboard.
Most commercial operators prefer a single engine, with protection for the propeller behind a full-length keel and enclosed skeg/rudder. With either single or twin diesel engines, usually straight shaft drives, a maximum speed of 25 knots is achievable with a comfortable cruising speed of 14-18 knots.

I have a Cygnus cyclone built in 1993
It has a Volvo Penta AD41P 6 cylinder on a 290 DP-E outdrive. Would you know what they drive ratio is or should be?
There’s a 1.78, a 1.95 and a 2.3?
Re. Cyclone 26′ s built by the yard in 1993 were………………… Yard No’ CL 76 as a complete boat, and CL 77 / 78 /79 /80 / and 81 which were all part fitouts and CL 83 which was just a set of mouldings.
Unfortunately no files were retained.
However, to establish the reduction ratio the easiest way is to hand bar the engine over a complete turn at same time count the number of times the prop turns. The difference will be the reduction of the drive gearbox.
I hope this is of help,
John Peters Ex. Cygnus Marine.
